Course Objective

Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) started in fabrication and assembly industries in 1971 and underwent numerous subsequent refinements & TPM is an all-inclusive approach to equipment maintenance that strives to achieve perfect production (zero defects). TPM also values a safe working environment with a zero accident policy. There’s no question that maintenance has to happen. But how? And when? By whom? This course covers how it’s done using Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), a technique developed at Toyota itself. Using it, equipment is always maintained in good condition to support a stable process. To achieve short, medium, and long term production plans, maintenance is necessary. Engineering must engage and facilitate collaboration between manufacturing and maintenance to consider the equipment itself, the motion of people in the area, and the movement of products. When applied well, TPM prevents equipment failure or malfunction and frequent stops while ensuring safety and environmental safeguards are in place.Jishu Hozen, Japanese word for Autonomous Maintenance, implies that the operators themselves maintain their machines in highest standards. These operators are trained to do so through the structured approach of 7 steps of Jishu Hozen (JH). Each step has a focus, an activity to be carried out & certain results to be achieved. This course has been designed to serve as a foundation for any person planning to make a career in Total Productive Maintenance. It includes, fundaments of TPM & Jishu Hozen till step 2.Learning Objectives Include - 1. TPM concept 2. Fundamentals of TPM 3. Overview on Jishu Hozen 4. Step 0: Preparation: “Know Your Equipment” 5. Step–1 Initial cleaning and fuguai identification at Static stage, Putting Tags on the machine 6.
